The McNary Lock and Dam includes the dam itself, a mile-long reservoir (Lake Wallula), powerhouse, navigation lock, two fish ladders, 18 miles of levees, pumping plants, and ancillary buildings.

The McNary Levee System consists of about miles of earthen levees and 11 operational pump plants that remove agricultural runoff, groundwater migration, and rainfall runoff.
The study revealed that the installation flow deflectors at Ice Harbor Dam caused adverse impacts to navigation in the lower lock approach.
An intense eddy formed near the downstream guard wall, and the angle magnitude of the crosscurrent in the lower lock approach were larger than those with the no-deflector conditions.
